Musing Mondays: I can’t read two books at once

musingmondays51

Musing Mondays is happening over at Should be Reading and it asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

  • Describe one of your reading habits.
  • Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
  • What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
  • Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
  • Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
  • Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

Today, for my very first go, I have to admit, I can’t read two books at once — but everyone else around me seems to! A different book every night, or a different book in the morning and in the evening, and I don’t know how they do it. Maybe I’m a completist? I just can’t get into another story when I’m in the middle of something else.

I can keep more than one book going at a time. Often when the book is very long I will pick up a smaller book to read when I need a break. I also keep an audio book going in my car.

Maybe I should start thinking of a second book as a break from a longer one. Hm. Am currently trying to get into audiobooks as well. I feel kind of weird walking around listening to something because I can’t shake the weird expression I get as I try to focus on the book.

I don’t often read more than one book at a time. The only time it works for me is if they are completely different genres…with no chance of mixing up the details between the books.

Thanks for sharing, and today I’m musing about my current read: “THE NIGHTINGALE”

    • Verushka says:

That’s a good way of looking at things too, I actually hadn’t thought of different genres before. I am thinking I’m just very anal, lol And thanks for sharing yours too!

  • Cleo says:

I’m like you, the only time I can sort of make it work is if I pair a fiction with a non-fiction book but there is no way I can manage two stories at once. I’m so glad you chose this as your musing as I don’t feel quite as alone with this now.

    • Verushka says:

Aw, thank you for letting me know you’re the same — it’s good to know i’m not the only one who does this too!

  • Matilda says:

I manage to complete two books at a time. It’s weird, I know. I sort of tune myself into different stories during different times of the day. For example, in the morning while I’m taking transportation or heading toward school, have a break, anything like that – I read one of the paperback books (I’ve actually talked about in my post). But when I come back in the evening, and I’m tucked in, I’ll read a separate novel on my iPad.

Thanks for sharing! Here’s my MM post: http://characterized.blogspot.com/2014/12/musing-mondays-currently-reading.html

I used to be like that too. But now I just read something different, depending on my mood. But then if one is really good, I end up reading that one straight through, while I only have 10% of the other one read. Haha
