Can’t Wait Wednesday was once Waiting on Wednesday, but the purpose is the same: for bloggers to highlight what they’re waiting on. This week that is The Family Doctor
Blurb
Paula is a dedicated suburban GP who is devastated by the murder of a friend and her children by their estranged husband and father. Stacey and the children had been staying with her after fleeing his control, and Paula is haunted by the thought that she couldn’t protect them when they most needed it. How had she missed the warning signs? How had she failed to keep them safe?
Not long after, a patient with suspicious injuries brings her anxious young son into Paula’s surgery. The woman admits that her husband hurts her, but she’s terrified to leave for fear of escalating the violence, and defeated by the consistent failures of the law to keep them safe.
Can Paula go against everything she believes to make sure one woman is safe, one child? She isn’t motivated by revenge. She’s desperately trying to prevent a tragedy . . .
A riveting, provocative novel about women’s fury, traumatic grief, new love, deep friendship, and the preciousness of life, The Family Doctor asks the question:
Should you cling to faith in a flawed system, or take control the only way you can? Can a good person justify taking a life to save a life?
This is a provocative blurb that asks questions of readers I think most people ask themselves when a woman and her children are subjected to violence from a man. For all the marches we go through when a woman is killed by a man, I don’t think the law has changed when it comes to women and protecting them, so this one is more relevant than ever,
I just requested this one, it sounds fascinating
It really does — and the author wrote Offspring, so that makes me more curious!
What a relevant and sobering premise… And you’re absolutely right – the figures of women killed by partners, or ex-partners are horrific. And the pandemic hasn’t done anything but make the situation worse… Thank you for sharing!
Oh, such a heartbreaking premise! Sounds like it will be very intense.
That cover alone with the tear down the center is making me anxious! The story sounds powerful and suspenseful:-)
Yes, such a relevant topic even today, unfortunately. I have worked with families in domestic violence situations and it can be a real challenge. The number of cases I am seeing in my county are high right now given the pandemic and the added stressors that has brought on. Thank you for sharing! I will have to look for this one when it comes out. Have a great rest of the week, Verushka!
