I’m writing this post to schedule it on Monday, and I am wondering if there’s even going to be a result from the election by then. Like seriously. I say this on the other side of the world, mind you, so I can’t even even imagine how my American blog buddies are doing — are you okay??
Never mind that-which-shall-not-be-named, let’s talk thee babies:
Backtrack
Brilliant idea for a series, can’t wait to see where this one goes!” – Patton Oswalt
A former criminal driver is given the chance at redemption by entering a car race but there’s just one catch: each leg covers a different period in history.
If you had a chance to fix a mistake from your past, would you take it? Alyson Levy would.
Guilt weighs heavy on former criminal “wheelman,” Alyson, who led an illicit life that left hers shattered. Enter Casper Quellex, an eccentric businessman who offers her the break of a lifetime: a massive cross-country car race that grants the winner an opportunity to correct a single mistake in their life. But here’s the catch — each leg covers a different period in history. As if keeping the cars on the often-questionable (sometimes nonexistent) roads and staying ahead of competition wasn’t enough, the drivers will now have to contend with medieval warriors, dinosaurs, and natural disasters…it’s all a possibility. Only the one who survives it all will be proven the winner, and like that, Alyson and the rest of the drivers find themselves in a gut-wrenching race through time and quickly learn that they must band together to form any chance for survival. But for an opportunity to turn back time, Alyson will drive from the Big Bang to the death knell of the universe
AHHH!!!! How damned cool is this premise?! Dinosaurs and medieval warriors and a car race!!
Only Truth
A woman moves to the country to flee a troubled past, but finds familiar fears lurking inside her new home
A successful artist with a doting husband, Isabel Dryland knows she should be grateful for her happy life. It’s a complete reversal from the one she led before, when normalcy seemed out of reach, after a violent assault she cannot remember left her shattered and scarred. Even though the memory was lost, the nagging feeling that she was damaged goods and the lingering effects of her injuries kept her questioning her sanity at times.
Tom, her husband, thinks a move will be the fresh start they need, and has even found the perfect house: a country estate that reminds him of one he admired in his youth. But all Isabel feels when she visits is an overwhelming sense of dread. Betrayed by her instincts so often before, she decides to trust Tom’s, to accept the move and learn to love their new home over time.
Instead, she learns that beneath the pretty façade of their new home lurk dark secrets powerful enough to bring her own trauma back to the fore. There is an uncanny familiarity about the place, as if it were infected by the experiences she hoped to escape. And the recurring presence of a mysterious stranger further disturbs her, giving her the sensation of being a predator’s stalked prey.
Isabel struggles to determine whether her fear is caused by memory alone, or by threats existing very much in the present. To find out, she’ll have to finally close the book on what occurred so many years ago—but how do you heal from a past you cannot recall, when only the truth about your past can set you free?
This cover makes me think this is a horror movie, but no, it’s a thriller. And I can’t help but mistrust her husband. I don’t know why, but I do.
Written in the Stars
With nods to Bridget Jones and Pride and Prejudice, a charming #ownvoices queer rom-com debut about a free-spirited social media astrologer who agrees to fake a relationship with an uptight actuary until New Year’s Eve—with results not even the stars could predict!
After a disastrous blind date, Darcy Lowell is desperate to stop her well-meaning brother from playing matchmaker ever again. Love—and the inevitable heartbreak—is the last thing she wants. So she fibs and says her latest set up was a success. Darcy doesn’t expect her lie to bite her in the ass.
Elle Jones, one of the astrologers behind the popular Twitter account, Oh My Stars, dreams of finding her soul mate. But she knows it is most assuredly not Darcy… a no-nonsense stick-in-the-mud, who is way too analytical, punctual, and skeptical for someone as free-spirited as Elle. When Darcy’s brother—and Elle’s new business partner—expresses how happy he is that they hit it off, Elle is baffled. Was Darcy on the same date? Because… awkward.
When Darcy begs Elle to play along, she agrees to pretend they’re dating to save face. But with a few conditions: Darcy must help Elle navigate her own overbearing family over the holidays and their arrangement expires on New Year’s Eve. The last thing they expect is to develop real feelings during a fake relationship.
But maybe opposites can attract when true love is written in the stars?
I want to draw hearts around this blurb. Bridget Jones + Pride and Prejudice rightaway!
The Three Mrs Wrights
Mr. Wright has everything. All that’s left to give him is what he deserves.
Lark has good things coming: a career as a board-game designer and a whirlwind romance with a handsome investor. Trip is so compassionate and supportive, he’s almost too good to be true.
Jessica has always been cautious, but she can’t resist Jonathan. The brilliant TED-talking visionary has big plans for his inspiring medical start-up. Now Jessica is invited to be part of the team—and to partner with the founder outside the office.
Holly has settled into a comfortable life with Jack, her husband of nearly twenty years. They’ve raised three children, they own a beautiful home, and they’ve founded a worthy charity. She’s proud of building a marriage that has endured—she just doesn’t want to look too closely at the cracks.
Lark, Jessica, and Holly are three strangers with so much in common it hurts. Their one and only is one and the same.
The charming Mr. Wright’s serial lies are about to catch up with him…
Oh, this is going to be good. I hope there’s revenge involved namely from the three Mrs Wrights.
The Roommate
House Rules:
Do your own dishes
Knock before entering the bathroom
Never look up your roommate onlineThe Wheatons are infamous among the east coast elite for their lack of impulse control, except for their daughter Clara. She’s the consummate socialite: over-achieving, well-mannered, predictable. But every Wheaton has their weakness. When Clara’s childhood crush invites her to move cross-country, the offer is too much to resist. Unfortunately, it’s also too good to be true.
After a bait-and-switch, Clara finds herself sharing a lease with a charming stranger. Josh might be a bit too perceptive—not to mention handsome—for comfort, but there’s a good chance he and Clara could have survived sharing a summer sublet if she hadn’t looked him up on the Internet…
Once she learns how Josh has made a name for himself, Clara realizes living with him might make her the Wheaton’s most scandalous story yet. His professional prowess inspires her to take tackling the stigma against female desire into her own hands. They may not agree on much, but Josh and Clara both believe women deserve better sex. What they decide to do about it will change both of their lives, and if they’re lucky, they’ll help everyone else get lucky too
I have so many ideas about what Clara found on the internet, but I am sure I am wrong! This sounds delightful! And also sexy!
That’s it for me. I hope all my US blog buddies have a result they want soon!
Luckily, by now the results are here! Past Verushka will be happy haha 😀
Past Verushka would be thrilleD! She was sitting here writing this post, and wondering what the hell was going on. And a week later, it’s kind of still going. I think we found a level further than ‘sore loser’ and that’s a ‘trump loser’
Those are five books that sound interesting and fun. How will you ever choose which to read first? ;D
In this case, for once, I can say Backtrack — I usually i just keep changing my mind about what to read first and then read something else altogether!
LOL! Well, we have a winner. I guess the big question at this point is whether or not the one who didn’t win will accept the results. I was a lazy blogger this weekend because I just couldn’t concentrate on anything but the news and am just getting caught up today.
Love your book recs too. I’m geting ready to read The Roommate soon and I’m very excited for it!
I was watching the results roll in and there not being a winner when I was writing this and the whole thing was blowing my mind, honestly. I don’t blame you for not being able to concentrate; it feels like you’d need a good lie down for a couple of days after those results!
The Three Mrs. Wrights sounds like it’s going to be very twisty!
I hope so with a title like that!
The Roommate was sexy, but it was about empowerment too. I laughed so much as I also cheered for Clara. It was great.
Oh you just upped my excitement for it!! That blurb is *very* intriguing!
The election had me stressed out all week. I mean, I’m sooo glad that Biden is the projected winner, but you-know-who is a baby and won’t concede, so I still have some anxiety.
anywayyyyy Backtrack sounds amazing, and I’m adding it to my list!!
Oh, the rest of the world is right there anxious too. I know so many people at work who were just stressed out about the outcome as well. Backtrack just sounds brilliant doesn’t it? Such an original premise!
OMG I need Backtrack. The election was really hard to go through but I’m grateful for the ending. If it actually does end. I have to admit I felt more alright Saturday than I have in a while.
I can’ t imagine how relieved 74 million people would have felt Saturday. (I drafted this post Friday lol) I hope the Big Baby that is oyu know who leaves soon.
