Can’t Wait Wednesday was once Waiting on Wednesday, but the purpose is the same: for bloggers to highlight what they’re waiting on. This week that is How it All Blew Up
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda goes to Italy in Arvin Ahmadi’s newest incisive look at identity and what it means to find yourself by running away.
Eighteen-year-old Amir Azadi always knew coming out to his Muslim family would be messy–he just didn’t think it would end in an airport interrogation room. But when faced with a failed relationship, bullies, and blackmail, running away to Rome is his only option. Right?
Soon, late nights with new friends and dates in the Sistine Chapel start to feel like second nature… until his old life comes knocking on his door. Now, Amir has to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth to a US Customs officer, or risk losing his hard-won freedom.
At turns uplifting and devastating, How It All Blew Up is Arvin Ahmadi’s most powerful novel yet, a celebration of how life’s most painful moments can live alongside the riotous, life-changing joys of discovering who you are.
Before I read the blurb, the first thing that hit me was: why is he blocking his face? And then I read the blurb and the lightbulb went on. There is pain in this blurb, but it’s so hopeful too!
ROME! Love the setting and other than that it sounds like a timely and good read (although like you said painful)
Oh yes, on both counts! I have high hopes for this one!
This sounds like it could be a powerful read – great pick!
I hope so — and thank you!
I love the sound of this, and throwing in a setting like Italy seems like it will make it even better! Thanks for sharing:-)
What a punchy blurb and effective cover! I hope you love this one, Verushka:).
Thank you – I hope it’s as awesome as it sounds too!
I loved Ahmadi’s debut so much! I was glad to see he was back to contemporaries. Fingers crossed we both love it.
Fingers crossed for sure! (And I need to look up his debut!)
You had me at “Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda goes to Italy.” That sounds perfect to me.
As I mentioned on Twitter, you always have the most interesting picks!
