Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday.
It’s held over at That Artsy Reader Girl, where every week bloggers list their top 10 bookish lists to the theme for the week. This week’s topic is supposed to be about those books we’ve added to our TBR and forgotten about. Instead, i’m going to go way back in my blog and check out the books I have read and what I remember or don’t remember about them.
A CSI magic series seemed to be right up my alley. However, I remember nothing about the book at all, mostly because my brain might have frozen up at author hitting readers over the head with the romance between the lead character and her boss, according to that review. I figure if I got to the point that I had to mention the fact that the author described how the lead character’s vagina contracting in her boss’ presence, I must have been really pissed off that the romance destroyed this boo.
The one thing I do remember about this is that I thought it might make like vampires again. I don’t think it quite got there though.
The Last Clinic
Why didn’t I keep reading this series? I actually remember liking Darla tremendously as she starts investigating a case, and comes up against crap from the sexist assholes standing in her way as she investigates. Also, she has an Elvis impersonator for a partner.
You Know Who I am and Everybody takes the Money
Sisters, that’s what attracted me to this: Dru and her sister Stevie are on the run because Dru killed someone and tried to save Stevie — their stepfather stills sends them money, but they’re in hiding. But 10 years later, things are changing and that’s where these books pick up. Ask me about the central theme of this story, mystery whatever and I wouldn’t be able to tell you — but their relationship? That I remember,
Evil Dark
OMG, another series I need to continue! Markoweski is a cop on Scranton PD’s Supernatural Crimes Investigation Unit and as I recall has a vampire for a partner. Note to self, continue with this series.
This House of Grief
A true crime book where an acclaimed author weaves herself into the narrative in a way. I like true crime, but I prefer where the authors are investigating something, rather than this where the author puts herself into the story bc the story is finished: they know who did what, so there’s none of that.
Max, who is Lebensborn, part of an SS-supported group in Nazi Germany dedicated to breeding Germans true and Aryan. We hear Max from the womb, already indoctrinated into the Nazi way of thinking, as he grows and finds frienship with a Jewish boy, Lukas. I hated and sympathised with Max at the same time. This book is one of those reads that sticks with you no matter what.
I think I am going to leave it there for now. I guess as it turned out, I may not remember the details of these books, but I do remember the something that made me like them. We can’t remember all the books we’ve read, right?
Oh this is a fun topic! I should go back and do this too- there are sooo many books I probably would barely remember what I liked or didn’t about them!
Great twist! I have a terrible memory so my list would be very long. Ha! I’ve never heard of any of these either, so I’m no help. 🙂 Happy Reading!
Haaa, my memory for details sucks these days too!
I like your twist to this! Some books seem to stick in your mind better than others in my experience.
My TTT .
They do — and sometimes, it’s how they make me feel that sticks with me.
I recently was looking through old posts and was reading a review of a book that I read years ago. I was raving about how good the book was but I don’t remember a thing about it!
Haaa, there are more than a couple that are like this for me!
It is interesting to go back, and try and figure out why you didn’t continue with a series. I am guilty of having so many unfinished series on my shelf. I am pretty impressed with the details you remember about these books. I know I can usually remember how a book, which I rated high, made me feel, but details are always sketchy. That’s why I capture a few thoughts about all the books I read on Goodreads, right?
I only remember bits that stuck with me — ask me any more, and i would hard-pressed to remember these details. The ohter interesting thing? I remember if they made me excited or not to read.
This House of Grief doesn’t sound like my kind of true crime book either. But different strokes for different folks!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
I hear you — different strokes for different folks indeed!
Love your twist here! There are so many books I have read and completely forgotten what they were about.
Thankfully, we’re not the only ones who do that!
I love your spin on things. You know, I am pretty sure I bought Max off of Book Outlet. Hmmm, I need to find that.
It is creepy and thought provoking at the same time. Still haven’t forgotten it.
I definitely do not remember a good portion of the books I read!
That makes me feel better!
This is a fun spin on this week’s topic. I sometimes look at books on my shelves and try to see what I remember about them. Sometimes it’s hard to remember much of anything, lol.
And now you know you’re not alone 🙂
I agree about not being able to remember all the details. But we usually take something away from the books we read.
I realised that even if I don’t remember the details, I can remember how i felt when I read it.
Oh gosh, I remember the Nazi fetus, I received a copy of that one to review and started to read it and just couldn’t continue. It’s amazing how many books we’ve read that are pretty unforgettable, I’ve bought the same book three times because I’d forgotten I’d not only already purchased a copy but had also already read it 😂
You are such a wonderful book nerd, Kelly! I can’t believe you bought the same book three times and you;d already read it!! Max was unforgettable and not a comfortable read at all. But it’s one that I won’t soon forget at all.
I wish we could remember ALL the details of the books we read . . . Yet, we sure keep feeling those that left a mark and it’s always great to share them with the rest of the group 😉 Also, we are all ‘guilty’ to have left series unread even if we enjoyed the first book/s, right?
Heh, it is indeed great to share those books we can’t forget or those ones we can’t forget how they make us feel.
I’m not great at remembering details about the books I read, because there are just too many! However, I can sometimes look back and remember if I liked it or not. Looks like you have some books here you’d like to continue the series with!
