Top Ten Tuesday: Books I’ve avoided reading because…

If you’re new to my blog,  welcome to Top Ten Tuesday. It’s held over at That Artsy Reader Girl, where every week bloggers list their top 10 being asked about.  This week’s topic is about those books we’re avoiding reading for whatever reason and why.

Here Now and Then: This one has got some great reviews, and I tried it for about half the book and it just didn’t work for me. I keep telling myself I’ll go back … but I don’t think I will bc I was so surprised at how harc I had to try to like it.

Fat Girl on a Plane: Another I tried, but failed to like. I promised myself to go back to it and try again, but I haven’t yet.

The Everything Box: I sort of liked this, but honestly, I forgot I was reading it and moved on.

Lock Every Door: Every review I’ve read has raved about this book, but the first one wasn’t my cup of tea, that as much as I am curious about whether this redeems this author for me, I’m happy to let it slip furhter down my TBR

Harry Bosch: I want to read at least one of these, but it’s such a big series, and so connected that I’m afraid I won’t understand anything if I pick it up in the middle

A Blade so Black: I don’t know how this just fell off my radar! The whole premise is just so good, but yeah.

My Name is Venus Black: Another that slipped lower on my TBR radar. Not entirely sure why, in all honesty.

What this highlights for me is that I’m such a moody reader, LOL!

Aw sorry you didn’t like Here and Now And Then. Lock Every Door is another one I’ve sorta contemplated reading, but I haven’t gotten it yet…

    Happy tuesday!!

I wanted to like Here and Now and Then so much, but it really just didn’t work for me, and I still can’t pinpoint why. Lock Every Door is sort of just sitting on my TBR and falling lower and lower….

  • Brooke Lorren says:

Sorry Here and Now and Then didn’t work out for you. I empathize with books falling off the radar. I was going through my Kindle looking for books to put on my TBR lottery for the upcoming season and I thought “oh yeah, I forgot that I found that one on sale!”

Once I abandon a book it is so hard to go back. My TBR books I’m avoiding

  • Melanie Parker says:

I have avoided Fat Girl on a Plane because I hate the title lol It triggers my little fat self LOL

Heh, I’ve forgotten to finish books as well.

    My TTT.

  • Stephanie @ Bookfever says:

At this point I’ve been avoiding reading so many books that I’m starting to feel guilty lol

  • Amber says:

I wasn’t a massive fan of Sager’s first book either, but his second one was a bit better! I’m hoping Lock Every Door is another improvement 🙂

  • Angela says:

I really liked Here, Now & Then! I haven’t read Riley Sager yet, mostly because of hype reasons.

    • Cindy says:

I loved A Blade So Black. I’m really looking forward to the next book. Here’s my list https://speedyreadercom.wordpress.com/2019/09/10/10-books-on-my-tbr-im-avoiding/

  • Barb @ Booker T's Farm says:

So I’m the same way with Riley Sager. Everyone loves his books but I really didn’t like Final Girl and now I’m afraid to read another by him. I’m hoping it was a fluke – that did happen with The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena. I love the rest of her stuff. But I’m still afraid.

  • Leelynn @ Sometimes Leelynn Reads says:

Oh my gosh, being a mood reader is me too! I liked Lock Every Door. Didn’t LOVE it, but it wasn’t bad. I found myself staying up to read it, so that was a good sign. I was on a blog tour for that one, so I guess that helped me get myself in gear to read it. I also have Fat Girl on a Plane to read but haven’t touched it yet. I’m terrible!

  • Jen Mullen says:

I was not at all impressed with Lock Every Door. I like the Bosch series, but have not kept up with it. Some books I avoid for their title (Fat Girl on a Plane), some for their covers (bare-chested men), genre (romance, gangs, cartels). By the same token, certain titles and covers will attract my interest, and I don’t mind a little romance in a good mystery or thriller. 🙂

  • Cholla says:

Ah, the Harry Bosch books are worth it though. I’ve only read the first so far, so I know where you’re coming from, looking at the long list of books that come after.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  • Deanna @ A Novel Glimpse says:

With books like Fat Girl on a Plane, I think it’s okay to DNF and then be done. There’s not enough time to keep trying books that aren’t something we love. Or at least, that’s how I feel. Too many books, too little time. 😉

  • Lark says:

I find I never go back to books that I start once and then put down “to finish later.” For me, that later never seems to come. 😀

  • Suzanne @ The Bookish Libra says:

I’m the same way with A Blade So Black. I won it in a giveaway and skip over it every time I go to my bookshelf.

  • Jessica at Booked J says:

Oh my gosh, I had the same issues with Fat Girl on a Plane. I honestly don’t usually DNF things but I’ve started it on so many separate occasions, that I think it’s safe to say I’m never going to finish it. Also, side note, I’m a huge fan of thrillers but Riley Sager’s work has consistently not done it for me in the past so I’m right there with you on Lock Every Door/avoiding it and what not.
