Waiting on Wednesday is held over on Breaking the Spine every week where bloggers highlight the titles they’re waiting for every week. This week my pick is: Dead in the Water
At first glance, this seems to be an interesting mystery, but then the last line sort of flips everything and makes it into something else altogether.
Blurb: When Brigitte and her family moved from the city, they were supposed to be happier. And safer. But soon her crime-writer ex-boyfriend turns up in town to promote his new novel, in which a woman is found dead — murdered — in a country lake. Hours later, Brigitte watches the police pull a body from the water near her Gippsland home.
Her husband, a country cop now, is at the scene, though it’s not his investigation; he’s only helping the Melbourne Homicide Squad. But there’s something he’s not telling Brigitte.
With her personal life spiralling out of control once more, and fearing her family is in danger, who can Brigitte turn to? And what if she makes the wrong choice?
‘Dead in the Water’ is about trying to escape the cycle of trauma. It delves into the darkness beneath the surface of fear, betrayal, and revenge, to find a glimmer of hope.
See? By the end of the blurb, the whole thing became something entirely different to me.
What do you think of it? What blurbs have done this to you — started one way and finished somewhere else entirely?
This one definitely sounds like a thriller! I hope you enjoy it!
Me too, Angela !!
Oh this one sounds really intriguing. It looks like a great pick and I hope you love it. I may just have to add it to the TBR!
It does, right? I hope it’s as good as it sounds!
I agree with you! The last sentence of the blurb takes it to a whole new level, very psychological. Sounds like it’s going to be a great read!
Exactly! Here’s hoping it does it right!
I like the sound of this and that cover — could go a lot of different ways!
Thanks for stopping by my WoW!
I was hooked at “pulling a body out of the lake”. It sounds good! I am getting into mysteries more and more. I hope you enjoy this one when it comes out.
Ooh, this is intriguing! I don’t read a lot of thrillers, but I like watching them…but maybe I should add this to the TBR too. Because yay for being freaked out of your brain on occasion. :’)
Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!
It sounds like a creepy mystery and I agree that last line of the blurb gives a twist on anything again.
IKR? So curious about it now!
I like the sound of this one! The blurb did sort of turn things around there and hopefully the book will have some twists and turns too. It sounds like it will be good.
I hope so too Di!
And another one gets added to my to read list. This sounds great!
Fingers crossed it is!
