#5Books: Don’t look now, it’s a book rec list you have to read!

5books-for-the-week-ending-250916

The first book on the list this week certainly is filled with questions, the kind couples have for each other. Are these the sorts of novels that are domestic noir now?

The second book rec is about second chances. What would you do if you had a second chance? The kind that can upset your life entirely if you take it, and regret deeply if you don’t?

The third well, explores what happens if you really did make a deal with the devil?

Fourth, involves an EPIC case of amnesia. EPIC. And magic.

And last, this fifth book rec could be very good, or very bad. It depends how the transgender character comes across in the book in the end.

Distress Signals: Adam and Sarah are in love, when Sarah disappears on a business trip. Consumed by grief, Adam becomes determined to find out what happened to her. He connects her to a ship where another woman disappeared the year before… in exactly the same way Sarah is supposed to have disappeared. Cue facing some home truths about his relationship with Sarah, before discovering someone is hunting people on a ship… I don’t understand the attraction to cruise ships. Being stuck on one with nowhere to go is about the most frustrating thing I can think of. Naturally, this book doesn’t help that thinking!

The Best of Adam Sharp: Twenty years ago Adam had an affair with Angelina, the kind of foreign affair that consumes you. But, when she wanted to take it further, he didn’t and now, she’s gotten back in touch with him. What does she want? Will he take a second chance? See? What would you do? I’m half afraid for him and the other half is excited… and yet, I feel there’s heartbreak here, because life doesn’t work like this, does it?

Dead Souls: Yes, Fiona does make a deal with the Devil, and then finds out she’s going to owe him a favour. The kind that has her terrified. But, there’s a support group for people like her, and Fiona discovers there are others like her, all waiting for the Devil to come calling for his due. Alright, this is classified as horror, which you know, has me horrified because I was hoping for a dark urban fantasy sort of read. What are my chances do you think?

Infernal: A man called Status (Why that name, I don’t know) wakes up with no memory of who he is. All he knows is he’s not human, but has magic and sorcery and might be kind of a bad ass. Thing is he’s in the middle of a 10-year magic war, and basically trying to find out who he is. I think this blurb is missing something and I suspect he’s going to end up on one of the warring sides somehow. Amnesia is one of my favourite tropes, so here’s hoping it’s good!

Bad Boy: Ren is transgender. He’s vlogged his transition and earned millions of fans as a result. But, he’s also Cane, a vigilante for a social justice group, hurting those who hurt the disempowered. The book revolves around a particular job for the group that goes wrong, and he ends up being the target of someone else, who is punishing him for what he’s done to others. Clearing his name means facing his past and his secrets, and who he is. Hm. I want to read this but I also feel like I’m on the fence about this, but I can’t articulate why just yet. Probably why it’s on the list lol!

Adam Sharp and Dead Souls are my picks this week! What about you?

I’ve been on a few cruises, and I used to love them, but now I kinda feel the same way as you lol. Dead Souls sounds pretty unique, but Infernal sounds most like my kinda book!
