Every week on Wednesday, Breaking the Spine holds a book meme where bloggers highlight the books they’re looking out for. This week my choice is: City of Strangers
Alright, you have to read the blurb first:
Grace Scott returns from honeymoon with her new husband, Mac, to find a man lying dead in their new Edinburgh flat. They don’t know who he is or where he’s come from.
The mystery of his identity remains unsolved.
Then, three months later, Grace finds a note tucked inside one of the wedding gifts which sends her on a journey to discover what really happened in her flat. A journey that becomes more dangerous the closer she comes to the truth . . . What she discovers will change her life.
Set in Edinburgh and travelling to Amsterdam, Paris and Copenhagen, CITY OF STRANGERS is a gripping story of deception, lies and corruption.
All I can think is that someone is trying to warn her about her husband. Don’t get me wrong, I am most probably, entirely, definitely wrong here, but it reads as something so random, that I can’t help but go there.
Not to mention, she’s going to all these wonderful European cities.
But, how does this author tie all this together? What do you think? Is this too random or just random enough to make you want to read it?
It’s definitely intriguing and I would want to know more. Plus the city travel- that’s a plus too. 🙂
I have to admit, the thought of all those cities was the first thing that grabbed me and then the rest of the blurb registered and I realised I might like this ALOT.
You know what, it does sound like you could be right, but tbh I’ not sure that would come up to my mind if I haven’t read your thoughts first.
Anyway, I hope you’ll be satisfied with the story.
And I hope the writer will be great at bringing those European cities to the readers.
I hope I will too, Irena! Thank you for commenting — I did over think this a bit, but once i got started, i couldn’t stop wondering about the blurb!
I love a good mystery and any book that takes me to so many cities that I’ve never been to before so I think it sounds quite good! So good, in fact, that I’m adding it to my own wishlist so thanks for spotlighting it 🙂
The cities, oh the cities Suzanne! (I think I need a holiday!) I hope you enjoy it!
Not really my kind of read, but I love the cover 🙂
Thanks Lauren — it is gorgeous, isn’t it?!
Definitely intriguing. I think I’d take it on trust that somehow all those settings won’t overwhelm the character development and story. I love the cover, but it’s very reminiscent of other books in this genre and so doesn’t draw any special attention. Great pick honey, it sounds like a good twist for the genre!
Tell me more about other books like, this Annette! I need a holiday and am living through my reading vicariously 🙂 I hope it’s a good one, I’ve definitely being mulling it over and wondering about it.
This one does sound really intriguing and that cover is really pretty. It definitely contains some cities I haven’t encountered a lot in books so I may look into this one!
I hope you do, Barb!
That cover looks wonderful! Hope you enjoy.
Best wishes

Thank you! I hope it’s good too!
Oh this sounds amazing! I am definitely going to add this to my TBR
Thanks for stopping by my WoW!
Oh, Verushka, such a FASCINATING pick!! I really like this! Yes, it has a rather creepy beginning, but I like that the main female character must go to all these beautiful European cities to uncover the truth!
I’m adding this one to my Goodreads shelves! Thanks for featuring it, as it’s entirely new to me!
Sorry for the late comment back….and thanks for commenting on my own WOW post!! 🙂
I traveled a lot in my life, but of all the cities mentioned here I’ve only been in Paris. Reading a mystery set in all those places should make for quite an intriguing escape, definitely hope it works great for you 🙂
This sounds pretty good!!! I hope you like it when you get to read it. I’m going to add it to my to read list now. 😀
