Every week Breaking the Spine holds an amazing blog meme in which book bloggers give others a heads up as to what they’re waiting for. This week To Catch a Killer is my choice.
First up, I admit it, I’m a sucker for a good cover, even if the title is a wee bit cliched… though in this case, accurate too. Check out the blurb
Erin Blake has one of those names. A name that, like Natalee Holloway or Elizabeth Smart, is inextricably linked to a grisly crime. As a toddler, Erin survived for three days alongside the corpse of her murdered mother, and the case—which remains unsolved—fascinated a nation. Her father’s identity unknown, Erin was taken in by her mother’s best friend and has become a relatively normal teen in spite of the looming questions about her past.
Fourteen years later, Erin is once again at the center of a brutal homicide when she finds the body of her biology teacher. When questioned by the police, Erin tells almost the whole truth, but never voices her suspicions that her mother’s killer has struck again in order to protect the casework she’s secretly doing on her own.
Inspired by her uncle, an FBI agent, Erin has ramped up her forensic hobby into a full-blown cold-case investigation. This new murder makes her certain she’s close to the truth, but when all the evidence starts to point the authorities straight to Erin, she turns to her longtime crush (and fellow suspect) Journey Michaels to help her crack the case before it’s too late.
What was it like growing up for Erin always being that toddler? It sounds like she was never allowed to forget it — could she forget it? Wait, could she even remember those three days? How did they fuel her desire to find her mother’s killer?
And in the middle of all that, she becomes a suspect in her teacher’s murder, while certain that her mother’s killer is after her. I am hoping there’s more to her mother’s murder — please don’t let it be her father that did it, that’s too obvious right?
But, tons and tons of questions… and a hella long wait to Feb 2017 for it! What do you think of it? And what are you waiting on this week?
This book sounds like a really intreating thriller that I might enjoy. The concept reminds me of a dark Nancy Drew novel. The title does seem a little bit cliché, doesn’t it? I hope that it is one that you enjoy. 🙂
I know, the title made me pause too. But it might be a case of a cliche bringing readers in? It does sound a bit like a Nancy Drew novel doesn’t it? And OMG, I am still mourning that show that never was.
^^^ how did interesting get autocorrected? 😂
