#LoveOzLit: Maria Lewis on dialogue that sings

#LoveOzLit: Maria Lewis on that something indefinable that makes dialogue sing

I am envious of anyone with that indefinable something that has the perfect comeback — whether in life or on paper. Mostly, because I will scrunch up my face and walk away and the perfect retort or line will only hit me hours or days later.

Okay, okay, but Maria Lewis is talking about something else entirely, something magical that spills from the hands of writers who just do have it. Magic. They’ll keep you enraptured with every word and as much as it’s learned, it’s also something that they do, that they have.

What do you think? Which author has that magical something that just grabs you and won’t let you go?

Right now I’m reading The Raven Cycle series and Maggie Stiefvater’s writing is so magical for me! Also, I’m the same way. I can never think of anything good to say until way later lol! This is made worse in person due to anxiety lol. 😡

I love it when an author can do that for me! And, I hear you — it’s hard in person to be on the ball and have the right comeback at the right time! I just freeze up!
