I am impressed.
The US Simon and Schuster has created a Muslim-themed imprint called Salaam Reads. It’s going to publish books with Muslin characters and stories, and will reflect what it is to be Muslin in this day and age — and let’s face it, with Islamophobia, teaching non-Muslim kids about the experiences of being Muslim isn’t going to change everything but it’s a start.
Four books will come out in 2017, and one in particular caught my eye: it’s a picture book about four kindergarten friends, of different religions, who experience each other’s holiday traditions.
And, fittingly, Salaam means peace in Arabic.
I really can’t wait to see this!
This is awesome news! I’ve been searching for more books about Muslim characters. We definitely need more of them.
IKR? Me too, and I hope they get a chance to expand this to YA and adult eventually. We need things like this!
