WOW: The Lie Tree

Waiting on Wednesday is held over at Breaking the Spine every week and is a marvellous chance to get to know what book bloggers are hanging out for. This week, I found: The Lie Tree — which as of Wednesday, is the award-winning The Lie Tree because it just won Book of the Year at the Costa Book Awards.

Waiting on Wednesday Book Rec: The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge

So. It’s a story about lies … which right there, got me curious. It follows Faith, who with her family leaves England in the wake of scandal to go to a remote island. Her father is found dead and then she finds a tree amongst his belongings that feeds off lies and bears fruit that reveals hidden secrets. When Faith realises she’s good at lying she starts to spread lies in the community they’re in to find her father’s killer.

This is so fascinating — what is a lie and what is the truth? Can readers trust anything Faith says? The potential here is awesome and the reviews stellar!

    • Verushka says:

The cover is, I agree! There’s something gothic and creepy about it that reminds me of grimm’s fairy tales, the ones not-safe-for-children, that is.

  • Majanka says:

This looks spooky, in a good way. And I like the idea of how lies are used in the book. Can’t wait to read this one.

I received an ARC of this last week. Have you seen the alternate cover? It’s more awesome than this one in my opinion but I like them both. Hope we both love it!

OHHHH NO I haven’t! I didn’t even know there was an alternate cover! I have to go searching for it, and I can’t wait for your review!!
