Lili Wilkinson has been writing since she was 12, and now works for the Centre for Youth Literature at the State Library of Victoria. She’s written 10 books, the most recent of which is Green Valentine — which has two characters named Lobster Girl and Shopping Trolley Boy. Or if you prefer, Astrid and Hiro. This is a romantic comedy, and comedy and humour is the hardest thing to pull off in writing, don’t you think?
But I digress — she offers a different view on write what you know, urging writers to be wary of it if they want to write diversely — and that is growing more important every day. Do you agree?
