Take a break — everyone has to

Vegas

There was a plan for my holiday – because I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I didn’t have one — lots and lots of reading, namely on the flights I was taking to the US and internally while there.

Yeah right, like that happened.

I felt incredibly guilty not picking up a book during my vacation, but then I realised I needed a time-out. Everyone needs to take a step back, including authors: a breather lets you regroup, refresh your mind and body and get a new POV you wouldn’t have thought of before.

Now, if that had worked like it should have for me, I wouldn’t have got sick towards the end of my holiday. Going from 30+ temperatures in Las Vegas to below 0 in NYC and Toronto meant I was just asking for trouble with the rapid and high change in temperatures as I was travelling.

But it was so worth it! Las Vegas is a 24/7 assault on your senses and fun. Walking down the length of Las Vegas Blvd, I saw so many different people and heard so many different accents. NYC was much the same, though the highlight of both places was definitely the shows – the O show (Cirque du Soleil) at the Bellagio in Vegas and Wicked in NYC.

The Grand Canyon – roadtrip from Vegas – was majestic and beautiful, and made me feel so insignificant. It’s a humbling experience.

I’ve just started reading 7th Victim by Alan Jacobson, a thriller I’ve been wanting to get into for a bit, so expect a review soon. It’s hard to explain the difference — looking at a book with a fresh, rest mind, much more than I was before I went on holiday, but I know I’m rested and eager, moreso than I have been in awhile.
