This site has been evolving and probably still will since I first started it. But, as always change is a good thing!
Pop: as in pop culture, usually featuring movie and TV reviews and other articles of interest.
Edit: as in editing services (see below).
Lit: as in interviews with authors, comic artists and writers, book stores and comic stores, app developers (yes, tech too!) and every so often stationery stores.
Editing Services
I offer quality editing services, such as manuscript evaluations, editing, proofreading, and copyediting for fiction and non-fiction manuscripts. I can also help with business and annual reports, and similar documents.

Manuscript evaluation
Before you dive into getting an editor, it is worth your time to consider a manuscript evaluation. This will give you an overview of the parts of your manuscript that may require extra attention, such as:
- Characterisation – Are your characters consistent? Do they evolve as the story progresses?
- Plot – I know you’ve spent months on your plot and you’re certain every part of it works…but you’ve lived and breathed your manuscript for a long time. Don’t be afraid of getting an objective point of view on it. I will be able to pinpoint for you the places where the plot may not flow logically and assist you in finding a solution.
- Pacing – The right pacing can keep your reader on pins and needles until the very end. I will highlight the parts of your manuscript that may drag, or perhaps there’s a part you’re glossing over too quickly. We can work together toward making all the elements work.
A manuscript evaluation cannot replace an edit. You can dive straight into an edit if you so choose.
Editing
I understand handing over your work to an editor isn’t easy. Your manuscript represents many hours of hard work and is evidence of your passion and dedication, and I will treat it with the utmost respect.
Substantive Edit
A substantive edit includes a detailed critique with comments and suggestions for changes at every part of your manuscript, such as characterization, plot elements, pacing, continuity, grammar, and punctuation.
My only role is to make sure your story is told in the best way possible, in your voice.
I do offer discounts on a second look at any changes you accept from the first round of editing.
Copyediting
A copyedit is usually done after your manuscript has undergone a structural edit, by me or someone else.
During a copyedit, I will ensure all elements are consistent, that your story flows logically, and your writing is clear. I will also check for punctuation and spelling consistency and accuracy.
Proofreading
This is the final check before submission for publication, just in case anything slipped through the cracks. It’s the final polish.
This is essentially a quality control exercise. It cannot replace an edit or a copyedit.
Pricing
Every project is different. A manuscript might need a proofread only, while another might need a copy edit and a proofread. Please email me at sydneyeditor1@gmail.com with the details of your project and a sample — no more than 5 pages — for a free evaluation, edit, copyedit or proofreading sample.
